He would still be limited to the single summoned creature whether it be a mount, a particularly adventurous axolotl, or something as simple as a canary. Dissipating said summon and attempting to conjure up a new one would wind up producing the same being with some minor changes (think an extra pair of eyes, feathers if it didn't have any, different colors, barks instead of its usual sounds, etc) brought on by the incense itself interfering with his magic. The closer he is to any ruins or places that are thick with the mist/during certain events, the potential for it to backfire increases.
For instance: that loyal and friendly mount might come out looking misshapen and aggressive, but if killed/dismissed and recalled at a later period it can return to normal or keep any changes you'd like.
Overall there would have to be other limits placed upon his creation magic outside of summoning creatures so as to not break the setting, but we'll leave that up to your discretion and ask for an adjustment if needed!
