COTERIE INTERACTIONS (IC) - CHAPTER I

COTERIE INTERACTIONS
✶ ✶ ✶
The leader of each coterie, all colloquially known by the same name as their group—Jaguar, Eagle, Viper, and Salamander—will play a major role in the story, oftentimes appearing in events and even, during major plots, accompanying the player characters on their quests. While having constant access to them in threads would be difficult to keep track of and may lead to unfair advantages for some characters, and they will never directly comment to any network or log posts made in

Note that it is fine to handwave minor interactions with the NPCs, such as in the case of exposition or receiving their quest orders, and you do not need to thread that out here nor ask permission from the mods. Relationships beyond passing familiarity as leader/subordinate cannot be handwaved however—in general, characters will not "build CR" with their leader to the degree they might with other characters in the game. They will still get to know them well over the course of the story, though.
Please also note that the NPCs are played by the mod team and are subject to the same tagging speed or question-answering expectations. We will respond as soon as we can!

Wonderful, then we mustn't delay. Come along, come along!
[ Winking to the bartender, he gestures for them to head outside. Once they're past the door, he leans in, his voice lowered: ]
I didn't want to say this inside and risk upsetting sweet Isabela, but... I couldn't help but wonder if perhaps you're planning to open your own establishment? She's terribly competitive, you know. Oh, but don't worry, the distilleries are hardly a kept secret. I'm happy to share with you.
no subject
Is she? [ Bruno shoots one more look back at the Viento now that they're outside. Well, that won't really be his problem, in the long run. ] I'm... not. Not me, I mean. A friend is but he, uh, he doesn't really travel as much, so. I thought I'd take a look for him.
[ Silco is not a friend but it's far easier to explain it that way than fumble over the entire 'well he's kind of a jerk but I've decided to help anyway' thing. ]
Sorry for the delay!
[ It's hard to say whether he's serious or not, with the exaggerated way he says that. It's dripping with irony and he wears such a gleeful look on his face, but that could just be because he gets a kick out of conflict, or something? Who knows. Either way, he leads Bruno along to a building around the back and a little ways down the road from the bar itself. ]
But if it's not going to be here in Coba, you might be alright. Or your friend may be. Goodness knows the other cities on this forsaken continent certainly could use a proper tavern of their own.

Failing that, it'd be a good subject for a drama, a thought he stashes away in the back of his mind for now. ]
Welll, I'm sure my friend can take care of himself. He's, uh, scrappy. [ Sure, that's one way to describe the former crime boss of an entire undercity. ] Besides, I'm pretty sure Coatepec is far enough out there to not really interfere with here.

[ Eagle looks absolutely delighted. Just pleased as punch. And also very amused, but he seems to be trying to do Bruno the solid of not laughing out loud at h—just kidding, he laughs. Really has a good chuckle. ]
Oh, how delightful. Just what we all need! A city of drunken bookworms! Hahaha. Well, I say it's a wonderful idea. We must hasten along in that case, there isn't a moment to waste. Come, come, the distillery is just through here.

[ So much amusement, so much laughter. None of it seems directed at Bruno, though, only the idea of Coatepec with a proper bar and, honestly, he can see what's funny there. So he's not against hurrying along to the distillery! Overall, good plan. ]
I don't think I ever caught your name, though? I'm Bruno.
[ Yeah, he has no idea who Eagle is still. The voice is vaguely familiar but as he's only heard it once before, well, that can get lost in the mix of all the coterie leaders snapping at one another. ]
no subject
Great heavens, you're absolutely right. Where in the world are my manners?
[ Is it necessary to stop dead in the middle of the street and bow, complete with flourishing arm gesture all this other complete theater? No. But he does. It overshoots formal and gentlemanly right into almost being downright ironic. ]
What a pleasure to meet you, Bruno! My name is Eagle. You're most welcome here—and to all of our secrets, of course.
no subject
...Eagle. [ Bruno gawks at the melodramatically bowing man for a second or two before taking a startled step back. ] W-wait, you're a coterie leader?! Wh... I'm so sorry, you don't have to give me a tour! You must be busy already!
[ And here Bruno is, wasting Eagle's time with a distillery! ]
no subject
Surprise~!
[ he is evil incarnate. ]
Please. I'm never too busy to help complete a lucrative sidequest. Besides, I volunteered! I'm happy to give you a tour, a few samples, perhaps a satchel of ingredients for the road...
[ He steps into the space Bruno left when he moved back, but not into his personal space. More like right on the fringe of it. Then he inclines his head and bats his lashes. Because he is evil incarnate. ]
Whatever pleases you.
no subject
O-oh. [ It is true. Eagle had volunteered. That probably makes it alright? Although does he really have to phrase it that way at the end? Bruno leans back even though Eagle stops on the very edge of his personal space, though he won't take any more steps away. ] When you put it... that way. You're. Yeah, you did. Though, um, just the tour is fine. You really don't have to go too out of the way, really!
no subject
[ Wait for it...
Okay. Time to stop torturing him (for now; alternatively, being in Eagle's presence is constant torture, so is it ever really over). Eagle takes a step back and gestures with a sweep of his arm for them to continue on. The distillery is paces away by then, so at least there'll be plenty to pay attention to once they step inside. ]
no subject
Alright. Let's go take a look.
[ And with that, they'll carry on towards where the distillery is kept. It certainly will offer an immediate distraction, since Bruno's face will immediately light up with curiosity and an interest to take a look at everything in there. He might be doing the research for someone else but the interest is real enough. ]
Oh, wow, these are much bigger than the ones from home.
[ He'll point that out first. Stills and piping made of copper and stone versus barrels and bamboo. One definitely works better than the other. ]
