LOCATIONS

The leader of each coterie, all colloquially known by the same name as their group—Jaguar, Eagle, Viper, and Salamander—will play a major role in the story, oftentimes appearing in events and even, during major plots, accompanying the player characters on their quests. While having constant access to them in threads would be difficult to keep track of and may lead to unfair advantages for some characters, and they will never directly comment to any network or log posts made in incensed or incenselogs, we do want to offer the opportunity for characters to interact with them. Therefore, with the exception of the aforementioned event posts where the NPCs might appear, all direct interactions with the coterie leaders can be done here. Simply comment below with the leader you'd like to interact with and whether it is in person or via medallion/journal in the subject line.

Note that it is fine to handwave minor interactions with the NPCs, such as in the case of exposition or receiving their quest orders, and you do not need to thread that out here nor ask permission from the mods. Relationships beyond passing familiarity as leader/subordinate cannot be handwaved however—in general, characters will not "build CR" with their leader to the degree they might with other characters in the game. They will still get to know them well over the course of the story, though.

Please also note that the NPCs are played by the mod team and are subject to the same tagging speed or question-answering expectations. We will respond as soon as we can!

I'm sorry it's taken me this long to introduce myself, Miss Aminat. I'm Eva Rosalene, one of the new recruits. I've been mostly in the library and introducing myself around as much as I can. I'm mostly just messaging you now to introduce myself but if you need anything from me, my door is always open.

[A pause. Is this right to ask the coterie leader? She'd have pretty freely asked her bosses back home but it was sort of a different relationship too. ... Eh, couldn't hurt.]

Okay, maybe one question. I'm not thoroughly familiar with the cuisine here but there seems to be a pretty good amount of ingredients and all. I like to think I'm a good baker so ... what dish would you recommend for a birthday party?

[Her tone sounds amused. There's a certain sort of "OooOOo" razzle dazzle to the way she says 'mysteriously' too.]

I don't really know the person it's for but she called me a 'mysterious stranger' so now I've got to bring something and leave it mysteriously.

[Apparently without Neil to joke with she's choosing to do so with anyone she can.]

Ah, yes. It's good to speak with you properly. Have you been settling in adequately? If there's anything I or the coterie can offer you, please let me know and we will do our best to get it to you.

[ There's a brief pause, apparently out of surprise, but then Salamander hmms softly in what's apparently a patient sort of laugh. ]

I'm afraid I've never been one for parties, myself, but... if it's for a birthday, then... hmm. I believe you could find the ingredients for a rice pudding here. There is one I was most fond of, growing up, that was made with only a few things. Rice, milk and nectar to sweeten it. Then you could add vanilla and canella for flavor. Lightly scorch the creamy surface to form a shell beneath an open flame after it's finished baking, and there you have it.

Oh, good idea! I don't think I've ever used canella before, though I've made plenty of rice pudding. My nephew probably shares your fondness for it -- or used to at least. Thanks, I appreciate it! Last party I went to was the Christmas party for where I work so trust me, I understand not doing parties too often.

[Though the difference here is likely that Eva likes parties pretty well to be honest. When she isn't getting hit with brooms or such anyhow, thanks Neil.]

I've been doing alright settling in, thanks for asking. The library you have is really fascinating.

Mm, I did always like sweets, but when I was a child I didn't have many ingredients or the money to buy them... but rice pudding was always easy to come by and relatively easy to make. At least in the case of birthdays, we should always try to remember to take the time out of our busy days to celebrate.

[ She should really listen to her own advice—ol' gal probably hasn't partied since dinosaurs last roamed the earth. ]

I'm glad you like it! If there are any subjects you're interested in, I or one of my assistants can guide you on where to find it. It's... easy to get lost in there among all the books sometimes.

Yeah you're telling me. I think I've gotten turned around at least a time or two. I've been mostly looking at the ingredients for all of the potions and such, trying to figure out what I know the equivalent of from back home. I don't have a medical license but I do know enough first aid to be passable.

Though... I know you all have ways of neutralizing the incense or at least lessening the effects. The work I do at home is psychologically related so I'd like to dive into dealing with the effects of the incense if I could. I'll try not to bug your assistants too much but I'm sure they wouldn't mind a set of hands to help.

Thanks for chatting with me by the way. I don't doubt everyone is busy but I do really enjoy getting to know my "coworkers" as it is.

Oh, yes, we could most definitely use the help. To be honest, understanding the psychological effects of the incense has been... difficult for us. It's often very unpredictable, and I'm not sure any of us are well-versed on the matter, so your expertise will be invaluable.

And it is no trouble! I'll admit I sometimes become so absorbed in my work that I forget all else, but I'm always happy to get to know not just my people, but anyone settling in or in need of answers.
