QUESTS/STORY SYNOPSIS
✶ ✶ ✶
Below are the quests for this month. Characters may take any of these at any time. While these should be written out in logs, some details and specifics can be handwaved in most cases (such as how much they were paid exactly, or some of the tedium of setting up the scenario). Characters do not need to thread out checking in (or out) with the coterie leaders, however they are always welcome to do so here to discuss pay, perks, issues, or anything else. Plotting may be done in

STORY SYNOPSIS
October 31, 2021: Game launch. After a week or so of adventurers from other worlds appearing within the four cities, borne from clouds of mist, the four leaders of the coteries—Jaguar, Eagle, Viper, and Salamander—all met in the same place for the first time in a very long time to address the situation. Broadcasting via the medallions from Kiichpan, they introduced themselves and their aim to the new arrivals and requested their assistance formally. Some were able to meet the leaders in person, and others had conversations via the medallions in order to glean some understanding of their predicament from them. In the end, all were essentially in agreement: they'll have to work together to get rid of the incense to stop anyone else from suffering.
November 30, 2021: First event, Smoking Mirror. Upon discovering and entering the Tezcatli ruins between Tikal and Coba, a troublesome black mist began spreading across the continent, including into the cities, where it began compelling characters to speak the truth whether they wanted to or not, as well as greatly exaggerating the already-present effects of the incense. It was discovered to be emanating from the obsidian mirror of Tezcatlipoca, a demigod dwelling deep within the inner sanctum of the ruins. Each coterie was split into groups and tasked with various jobs to make reaching the final boss easier, and eventually the beast was taken down through teamwork between the four coteries.
January 2, 2022: Eagle addressed the medallions in song, disturbing most people's rest. While most of what took places was Shenanigans, there were some veiled tidbits of interest both in what Eagle said to some of the characters who responded, as well as in his poem.
January 6, 2022: Under the guidance of Onni, several characters began chartering better paths between Tikal and Coba and stumbled upon a hidden tunnel leading through the western mountain ranges outside of Tikal. Through their efforts they were able to clear the tunnels for use during travel as well as create a more cohesive pathway along the main roads, speeding up travel between the two cities exponentially.
January 15, 2022: The first of the four relics was located in Kiichpan by Viper and her subordinates, right under their noses all along. The ensuing chaos flooded the city with rage-inducing incense, exploding chunks of the Grand Temple, and ultimately with flames and seawater when Quetzalcoatl was summoned at the top of the tower. Lloyd Irving retrieved the relic and was granted a boon of fire as well as a curse of rage, and he and several other characters including Viper combined their efforts to take the feathered serpent down. The relic was then sealed away by Viper within the coterie headquarters, who then fell unconscious. The events left the once most prosperous city on the continent in ruins, with the residential areas as well as the entire marketplace washed away entirely. Eagle, Salamander and Jaguar all arrived toward the tail end of the events and take over the recovery efforts, with a promise to address all that has taken place as soon as things settled down and Viper woke up again.
January 28, 2022: Nearly two weeks to the date of the events in Kiichpan, the coterie leaders address the public. Barely able to keep from arguing with each other, they nevertheless delivered a summary of the destruction in Kiichpan and what they planned to do going forward. In conversation with the outlanders, several key details were revealed by the four leaders: namely, that they are each over a hundred years old and cannot die; that they sealed the four ancient gods, things that they consider monsters or demons, away in the relics seemingly by accident; and that each relic—and by extension the four of them—were granted both a boon and a curse that seems to pass onto anyone who touches the relics themselves. With tensions high, the leaders assured everyone they will rethink their strategy going forward to prevent another disaster like the one in Kiichpan.
March 6, 2022: Striking out from Tikal to create better pathways to Coba, Onni leads a second expedition. There, they clear monsters and plantlife and add assists for the steep entryway into Coatepec, as well as a branching pathway toward the hot springs.
March 30, 2022: Yuri, having been given the responsibility of organizing it, holds a Jaguar council meeting, which Jaguar attends in order to answer questions and formulate plans. There are discussions of future inter-coterie council meetings possibly happening in the future, especially with the Vipers and Salamanders organizing a collective in Coatepec as well.
April 4, 2022: Salamander requests some assistance in reaching one of the northern islands, where she feels a relic just might be located. Putting out a call to magic-users, who had previously helped charge special dowsing crystals with elemental energy in order to help detect strong fonts of the same across the continent, she and Viper make a plan to reach the island and search for the relic.
April 15, 2022: Their groundwork laid out, Salamander and Viper take several characters on Viper's ship, the Highwind, to scout out a northern island where they believe the second relic to be located. Remaining at a distance, they are able to sense powerful energy that Salamander feels is indicative of the relic, and thus return to the mainland to plan a strategy. Before they're able to, however, mist floods the continent, entrapping many people inside "bubbles" that show them their heart's greatest desire, followed quickly by their worst nightmare. Monsters manifested from characters' dreams escape the bubbles and run rampant in the real world, causing chaos and destruction across Copalli. Salamander, after falling victim herself to her own dream/nightmare, reaches the end of her patience for being toyed with by the guardian of her relic and makes for the northern island alone in an attempt to control and seal the relic. However, she is unable to resist the demon's influence and is corrupted, requiring Link to retrieve the relic and suffer its curse. Cuetzpalin, an ancient demigod, emerges from the sea and attacks, but is quickly subdued by the outlanders and coterie leaders. After the events, Salamander is able to recover and seals the relic, promising all involved that she will answer for these events in due time.
April 29, 2022: The coterie leaders gather in Coba and address a crowd in person, as well as over the medallions, regarding the events earlier that month. Seemingly united in their plan to move forward, which includes better fortifying and protecting the cities as well as establishing a system of advisors and information-sharing with the outlanders, everything starts well. Just as they are beginning to recommend giving the outlanders more control of the relic search, Salamander abruptly sends everything into a tailspin when she announces that she feels they should stop pursuing the relics immediately and make plans to free the island instead. Warning of certain disaster if they continue, the other three leaders are shocked and, in some cases, outraged by her apparently cowardly decision. The four disperse and share information with the outlanders, including more information on the creatures sealed within the relics, the history of how they came to Copalli, and more about their individual relics and curses. Eagle in particular threatens a reckoning for Salamander and anyone who impedes his progress, a sudden departure from his typically lighthearted persona.
June 8, 2022: Eagle, feeling either more or less spicy since the last time we saw him, critiques the fashion of every single outlander. It's questionable how he happens to have the name and description of every arrival, and he isn't forthright with the information.
June 26, 2022: In an effort to help the outlanders locate his relic, Jaguar shares what he knows in a written record. He details his recollections of arriving on the island and how he found his relic, what it did to him, and what he faced both during and after those events. Stating that he feels their presence is making things worse, he encourages the outlanders to band together without his interference, and promises to follow their lead.
June 27, 2022: As a follow-up to Jaguar's entry, a group of outlanders detail what they've found during an extensive bout of research into the ruins and libraries. With all of this information combined, they seem to have pinpointed a lead on the next relic.
July 16, 2022: After a lengthy search, the outlanders follow their leads to the ruins of Titlacuan, where they locate the earth relic and unleash Ocelotl, its guardian, into the ruins chamber. The incense that pours forth subjects everyone to delusions and the inability to distinguish reality from illusion. Worse still, massive earthquakes rock the continent, and the entire plateau that Tikal is built on sinks into a deep crater. Jaguar attacks Viper, then comes to his senses long enough to retrieve the relic from Connor. Unable to seal it magically, he plunges the black mirror into his own chest to contain it partially that way, and then enters into quarantine to be monitored for negative effects.
