COTERIE INTERACTIONS (IC) - CHAPTER I

COTERIE INTERACTIONS
✶ ✶ ✶
The leader of each coterie, all colloquially known by the same name as their group—Jaguar, Eagle, Viper, and Salamander—will play a major role in the story, oftentimes appearing in events and even, during major plots, accompanying the player characters on their quests. While having constant access to them in threads would be difficult to keep track of and may lead to unfair advantages for some characters, and they will never directly comment to any network or log posts made in

Note that it is fine to handwave minor interactions with the NPCs, such as in the case of exposition or receiving their quest orders, and you do not need to thread that out here nor ask permission from the mods. Relationships beyond passing familiarity as leader/subordinate cannot be handwaved however—in general, characters will not "build CR" with their leader to the degree they might with other characters in the game. They will still get to know them well over the course of the story, though.
Please also note that the NPCs are played by the mod team and are subject to the same tagging speed or question-answering expectations. We will respond as soon as we can!
...I forgot we gave her PB icons
Of course I care about this city. And these people. I've been lookin' after them for a century, they're practically all I've got. And they take care of their own in kind. That's always been our way. I—
[ And here she drops her gaze again, shoulders slumping. ]
...And then everyone in the known universe heard me say "forget the city" and let them die. But I was fightin' for them. Not for me.

Yeah... it... wasn't the greatest thing to say but, you know, people say things they don't mean. At the worst times, usually. [ He hesitates a few tics longer, still fidgeting with the cloth in his fingers, but, well, he has his answer. ] Sorry. It's just, I'm not here to judge you for it or... or anything like that. I want to help but. I don't know if I can trust you. Or.
[ Or not. But she cares about Kiichpan and its people. That will have to be good enough. ]
And... and maybe I can't. Still. I just don't want to do nothing at all, in case there's something. Well. I guess I should stop rambling, huh? Besides, people will figure this out sooner or later. [ Deep breaths, Bruno, you can do this. ] I have magic. A gift. That lets me see visions of.
[ He tugs one hand free from all that ruana wringing he's been doing and gestures vaguely, just, vaguely around. Like, you know, visions of stuff. He will specify after that, though. ]
The future. Which sounds crazy, believe me, I know, and I'm not saying I can use it to answer, like, everything, or even where the rest of... those. [ A glance is shot back towards the sealed relic. He's pretty sure if they couldn't find that thing in a whole hundred years of looking, he isn't about to, either. ] But if there's anything I could... try and see. Even if it's just a hint or. Maybe if these curses can be broken, somehow. I'd be willing to, uh, try. Y'know, if it means avoiding another disaster or more people getting hurt. Or something. Like that.
no subject
Which is easy to do when "visions of the future" registers in her head. Then her eyes go wide, jaw slightly slack. ]
You—hang on a minute. You're tellin' me you can see the future? With or without caveats, that's a hell of a...
[ Narrowing her eyes, but not at him so much as at the situation. ]
...What's the catch? What's it cost you to do it? No way a gift like that doesn't got a drawback. A big one, I'd wager.
no subject
Wellll, there's the whole thing where... a lot... like, a lot of the visions are, uh, bad. Bad ones. Of bad things. [ Bruno has seen a lot of shit, okay. ] Not always, of course, just. A warning. Ahead of time. Though, I mean, you'll probably end up hating me for it. Eventually. That's usually how it goes.
[ And might go to some length to explain why he's such a nervous fellow. ]
But even with the good ones, they are still visions. They don't always make sense at the time. Sometimes they'll of order or it won't offer any context or... It just isn't very straightforward half the time, is what I'm trying to say. [ There's a pause here as he thinks. Is there anything else? Is there... ah. ] And headaches but that's the least bad thing about it.
no subject
Don't know how the hell I could justify hatin' you for telling me what I already know. Of course there's nothing but trouble in our future. Yours, mine, and anyone stuck on this nightmare of a continent.
[ And yet. She just can't resist... ]
...But d'you think you'd be able to see the relics? Where the rest of 'em are?
no subject
Yeah, yeah, you'd be surprised at what people can justify when bad things happen. [ There's a pause as he rethinks that. Actually. ] Or you wouldn't. You've probably been through, uh, a lot, yourself, so.
[ The relics, though. Of course, she would ask about the relics. ]
I could try? With those. I just wonder how much magic is protecting them from being found in their own right. I mean, look at how long it took you to find the one here.
no subject
I hadta ask. But yeah, you could be right. Far as I know, none of us can see the future or read minds or anything like that, but even if we could it's a safe bet the incense would find some way to screw it up anyhow.
[ Pursing her lips. It'd be such an easy thing to insist that they make use of this, the ends justifying the means and all that, and before what happened in Kiichpan she probably would have. But now... she resists the temptation. ]
I... think you probably ought to keep that one in your back pocket. It's risky an' you know it's risky.
no subject
Alright. But. If you ever change your mind, you just gotta let me know. I'll try to help however I can.
no subject
Thanks for that. In the meantime, I... eh, it's up to you what you do with your powers, but I'd be—cautious who else you tell about it, lad. The other leaders in particular. We're all supposed to be a big ol' happy teamworking family 'n all, but...
[ Sighing. ]
Their No Good Very Bad Day hasn't come yet, and if they had it their way, with the right kinda tools, [ that means you ] it might not ever. So.
no subject
Mm, yeah, well, family doesn't really ever quite work out perfectly that way. [ Speaking from experience, ma'am. ] I'm really kinda hoping I never have to tell anyone else at all, to be completely honest, but I rarely have that kind of luck? I will, though. Try to be careful.
[ And that's that, he supposes. There's certainly an awkward moment where he stands there without anything else to say, uncertain, but he does inevitably come to the conclusion that he should probably add, ]
Uh, right. So! That's it. I'll let you get back to resting and all now.
[ And if she doesn't have anything else to add, he sure won't linger once he mumbled a farewell. ]
